White House press secretary says Trump backing Pete Hegseth following latest Signal app allegations

President Trump is backing Protection Secretary Pete Hegseth following stories that he included his spouse, brother and lawyer in a non-public chat on the Sign app about deliberate army strikes in Yemen, White Home officers mentioned Monday.

“The president completely has confidence in Secretary Hegseth,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt advised reporters on the White Home. “I spoke to him about it this morning, and he stands strongly behind him.”

It was the second time Mr. Hegseth was accused of sharing data on the Sign app about U.S. army operations towards Houthi forces in Yemen. The primary incident was disclosed after Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was inadvertently included in a Sign chat with Trump administration officers, who have been detailing the mission.

The White Home and the Pentagon have insisted that no labeled data was included in both Sign chat. Protection Division spokesman Sean Parnell known as it “one other day, one other outdated story.”

“The Trump-hating media continues to be obsessive about destroying anybody dedicated to President Trump’s agenda. This time, the New York Instances — and all different Pretend Information that repeat their rubbish — are enthusiastically taking the grievances of disgruntled former staff as the only sources for his or her article,” Mr. Parnell mentioned on X. “They relied solely on the phrases of people that have been fired this week and seem to have a motive to sabotage the Secretary and the President’s agenda.”

The allegations come quickly after former Pentagon spokesman John Ullyot’s essay in Politico, the place he mentioned the Protection Division has been in “complete chaos” since Mr. Hegseth took over.

“President Donald Trump has a robust document of holding his prime officers to account. On condition that, it’s exhausting to see Protection Secretary Pete Hegseth remaining in his function for for much longer,” Mr. Ullyot wrote.
