OSLO, Might 7 (Reuters) — Danish International Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen stated on Wednesday he would name within the performing U.S. ambassador to Denmark for talks after the Wall Road Journal reported Washington had ordered U.S. intelligence businesses to step up spying on Greenland.

“I’ve learn the article within the Wall Road Journal and it worries me drastically as a result of we don’t spy on mates,” Rasmussen advised reporters throughout a casual assembly of EU overseas ministers in Warsaw.

“We’re going to name within the U.S. performing ambassador for a dialogue on the overseas ministry to see if we will verify this info, which is considerably disturbing,” Rasmussen added.

The U.S. is stepping up its intelligence-gathering efforts relating to Greenland, drawing America’s spying equipment into President Donald Trump’s marketing campaign to take over the island, the WSJ reported on Tuesday, citing two nameless sources.

A U.S. State Division spokesperson stated the division doesn’t touch upon intelligence issues and referred to an earlier remark from Nationwide Safety Council spokesperson James Hewitt, who stated Trump has been very clear that the U.S. is worried in regards to the safety of Greenland and the Arctic.

Trump has repeatedly stated he needs to take over Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory within the Arctic, refusing to rule out annexation by pressure, making a diplomatic disaster between the U.S., Denmark and Greenland.
