Donald Trump’s menace to make use of “very heavy force” on anybody who dares to protest his administration throughout the U.S. Military’s 250th anniversary celebrations in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, which coincides with the president’s 79th birthday, drew fierce blowback on social media.
“If there’s any protester desires to come back out, they are going to be met with very large power,” Trump informed reporters on Tuesday.
“For these individuals, that need to protest, they’re going to be met with very large power,” he reiterated.
Trump claimed he hadn’t “even heard a couple of protest” being deliberate on the day. However he deployed his standard rhetoric towards his critics, claiming they’re simply “individuals who hate our nation.”
And he added once more, “They are going to be met with very heavy power.”
Critics reminded Trump of the First Amendment of the U.S. Structure, which states that:
“Congress shall make no regulation respecting an institution of faith, or prohibiting the free train thereof; or abridging the liberty of speech, or of the press; or the fitting of the individuals peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Authorities for a redress of grievances.”
Former Trump aide Anthony Scaramucci, who’s now a vocal critic of his onetime boss, slammed Trump for “threatening state sponsored violence on residents exercising their first modification proper” and referred to as Senate Majority Chief John Thune (R-S.D.) to “develop a spine” and converse out to “reject fascism.”
