New York Metropolis Comptroller Brad Lander, a candidate for mayor, was arrested by federal brokers Tuesday as he accompanied a migrant from an immigration court docket listening to and raised objections when officers moved in to arrest the person.
“I requested to see the judicial warrant,” Mr. Lander says in a video capturing the second when he’s being handcuffed.
His workplace mentioned he was being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
An Related Press reporter on the scene mentioned an agent informed Mr. Lander he was obstructing, and the comptroller may be heard denying that, saying he was in search of to see a warrant.
“You don’t have the authority to arrest U.S. residents asking for a judicial warrant,” he mentioned.
