    Trump says he was caught off guard by GOP opposition to Hegseth

    President Trump instructed reporters Friday he was shocked that two GOP senators rejected Protection Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth.

    Lawmakers on Thursday voted to finish the controversy over Mr. Hegseth, inching him nearer to affirmation. Nonetheless, two Republicans — Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — voted towards advancing the nomination.

    Forward of his journey to survey hurricane injury in North Carolina, Mr. Trump instructed reporters he was shocked they voted no.
